Connect a printer via PrintNode

Connect a printer that cannot poll a URL, using PrintNode.

Most venues should use a Star CloudPRNT or Epson printer, which connects straight over Wi-Fi. Reach for PrintNode only if you already have a printer that cannot poll a URL itself (a generic USB or Wi-Fi receipt printer).

Who can do this

This needs the Manage Printers permission, and your plan must include docket printing.

PrintNode needs extra kit

PrintNode needs an always-on PC or Mac on site running the PrintNode client, plus a paid PrintNode account. If you can use a Star CloudPRNT or Epson printer instead, it is simpler and cheaper. See Connect a Star CloudPRNT or Epson printer.

Before you start

  • A PrintNode account, with the PrintNode client installed and running on an on-site PC or Mac that your printer is connected to.
  • Your printer's PrintNode printer ID (a number, found in your PrintNode account).

Steps

  1. Go to Operations -> Printers and add or edit the printer (see Add a printer).
  2. Set the Transport to PrintNode.
  3. Enter your PrintNode printer ID (for example, 1234567).
  4. Pick the Paper width and the station(s) under In groups.
  5. Click Save.

How to know it worked

Send a test print from the printer. The docket should come out of the PrintNode printer within a few seconds. See Send a test print and reprint dockets.

Troubleshooting

Nothing prints Check the PrintNode client is running on the on-site PC and that the printer ID matches the one in your PrintNode account. See also Troubleshoot a printer that will not print.
