Rotate a printer's token
Get a fresh server URL for a printer if its current one might have leaked.
A Star CloudPRNT or Epson printer connects using a secret server URL. Anyone with that URL can read the printer's queued dockets, so if you think it has leaked, rotate the token. This makes a new URL and stops the old one working.
Who can do this
This needs the Manage Printers permission, and your plan must include docket printing.
Steps
- Go to Operations -> Printers and open Connect this printer on the printer.
- Click Rotate token.
- Copy the new Server URL and paste it into the printer's CloudPRNT or Server Direct Print setting, replacing the old one.
- Save the printer's settings.
How to know it worked
The printer reconnects with the new URL and a test print works. Open Connect this printer and click Send test print to confirm. The old URL no longer prints.
Troubleshooting
The printer stopped printing after I rotated The old URL is now dead. Make sure you pasted the new Server URL into the printer and saved its settings.
