Rotate a printer's token

Get a fresh server URL for a printer if its current one might have leaked.

A Star CloudPRNT or Epson printer connects using a secret server URL. Anyone with that URL can read the printer's queued dockets, so if you think it has leaked, rotate the token. This makes a new URL and stops the old one working.

Who can do this

This needs the Manage Printers permission, and your plan must include docket printing.

Steps

  1. Go to Operations -> Printers and open Connect this printer on the printer.
  2. Click Rotate token.
  3. Copy the new Server URL and paste it into the printer's CloudPRNT or Server Direct Print setting, replacing the old one.
  4. Save the printer's settings.

How to know it worked

The printer reconnects with the new URL and a test print works. Open Connect this printer and click Send test print to confirm. The old URL no longer prints.

Troubleshooting

The printer stopped printing after I rotated The old URL is now dead. Make sure you pasted the new Server URL into the printer and saved its settings.
